Anthropic Targets Corporate Efficiency With New Duet Agent

By focusing on professional workflows and automating complex tasks, the new tool seeks to capture market share from competitors who prioritize personal assistance.

Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, a new application designed specifically for professionals and small businesses seeking to automate complex workflows. The product marks a strategic pivot for the company, moving away from general-purpose personal assistance toward a more targeted focus on enterprise-grade productivity and task management.

The core value proposition of Duet is its ability to handle professional duties that require sustained attention and data processing. Unlike personal agents that focus on daily errands, Duet is engineered to build daily briefings, generate data dashboards, and suggest actionable steps based on user-specific information. This distinction is crucial for the target demographic, as the company explicitly states that the agent is not optimized for booking tickets or handling casual personal requests.

A key differentiator in the current market is the shift from passive chatbots to active agents that can work on a user's behalf. Anthropic positions Duet within this emerging category, where the software can complete tasks in the background using its own virtual machine. This allows users to continue with their primary work while the agent processes requests, returning for approval only when necessary. This background execution capability is a significant feature for professionals managing high volumes of administrative work.

The technical infrastructure supporting Duet is robust, built on the Claude Opus 5.5 model. To facilitate its function, the agent can connect to more than 6,000 connectors and plug-ins available in the Claude Marketplace. This extensive connectivity is critical for its intended use case, allowing it to interact with the various professional tools and platforms that small businesses and individuals rely on for their operations.

Monetary transactions represent a significant area of functionality for the new agent. Duet can make online purchases on behalf of users through integrations with Stripe’s Link digital wallet and Shopify’s Shop Pay. However, the company has established clear boundaries regarding financial risk. While it can initiate payments, it will not trade securities or move money between bank accounts. Furthermore, any sensitive step, such as a payment, requires explicit user approval before proceeding.

Security and data privacy are central concerns in the agent market, and Anthropic has introduced specific safeguards to address these issues. A new classifier has been implemented to scan every message, preventing sensitive information from leaking out during interactions. By default, the agent is configured to turn down requests that ask for credit card numbers or government identification numbers, providing an additional layer of protection for user data.

The competitive landscape for AI agents is becoming increasingly crowded, with major tech firms launching similar products in rapid succession. Anthropic is now competing directly with offerings such as Meta Muse, OpenAI Dots, Hark, Instinct, Grok Bot, and Fo. While some rivals like Meta have released personal assistants alongside business-focused versions, Anthropic is making a distinct bet that a tool tailored specifically for professional and small business needs will capture significant user attention.

As of this week, Claude Duet is available on iOS and Android platforms, as well as via the web through Claude.ai. Access is currently limited to Pro and Max customers who are part of a research preview program. To manage the rollout, users must join a waitlist to gain access to the new agent, signaling that Anthropic is taking a measured approach to its market entry.
